COMPETENCIES

 

Psychotherapy: Private practice as a marriage, family therapist, specializing in individual and group psychotherapy. Highly experienced in therapy regarding the direct expression of feelings, such as hurt and anger, and in offender behavior, including sexual offenders. Skilled in the use of poetry, bioenergetics, hypnosis and psychodrama in the release of blocked affect due to trauma, and in the use of phototherapy, systems theory, behavior modification, and in dynamic principles.  Employee Assistance Program counselor providing short-term, goal oriented therapy.   Extensive experience in psychiatric settings with hospitalized adults, adolescents and children, and in out-patient settings, treating substance abusers, abused adults and children, multiple personality disorder patients, crime victims, persons with personality disorders, and the general population.  Served as principal psychodramatist and psychodrama internship supervisor in a narcotics treatment program in a federal prison, the California Youth Authority's psychotic treatment program and in various hospital settings.  Experienced in family conflict resolution and children's behavioral issues, including parenting issues, issues related to divorce and custody conflict and the treatment of trauma in children and adults.  Extensive experience in treating stress reactions in children, adults and seniors.  Proficient in a wide range of stress management techniques and their application to various populations including law enforcement personnel and arthritis patients.

 

 

 

Career, Educational, Vocational and Rehabilitation Counseling:  Experience at the community college level and in private practice as a vocational counselor, providing vocational and educational counseling and guidance to a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural adult student population including the chronically unemployed, and particularly the emotionally and physically disabled.  Also skilled in counseling related to the employment process, including resume writing, job interviewing, and job seeking skills.  Worked in CETA, JTPA and other programs as counselor and program developer.  Previously GATB certified by Department of Labor, and skilled in JEVS, VITAS, VALPAR work sample testing. Skilled in the administration and interpretation of standard paper and pencil vocational interest, aptitude and values tests, and in vocational and educational programs.  Counseled in clerical, nursing, police and fire science, computer programming and repair, auto mechanics, environmental sciences, security technology, and other vocational programs, including English as a second language students.

 

Teaching and Training Programs:  Developed and taught college and university level courses in family therapy, legal and ethical considerations in counseling, dealing with shyness in children, parenting techniques, crisis intervention for professionals, psychodrama, industrial role training,

and interpersonal skills, a cognitive approach to decision making, visualization skills, sales motivation, and in classes related to the family, including parenting, divorce and custody conflict resolution,

couples communication, substance abuse, and a wide range of classes pertaining to psychiatric symptoms, such has depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and to domestic violence, and stress management for law enforcement personnel, arthritis patients and the general population, and in organizational performance analysis: a cognitive/behavioral approach. Also developed and taught self-esteem, assertiveness training and stress management as a semester long course.  Taught self-esteem and assertiveness training to children in youth program, as well as instructor in vocational preparation classes for youth.

 

Training Materials Development: Developed training programs for parenting education. Produced training manuals for multi-level computer sales companies and for a telecommunications company, including material on how to recruit and train a sales force, and in sales psychology.  Designed, wrote and recorded training tapes on organizational building for multi-level companies.  Developed training materials for a vocational out-placement program for GTE, the Orange County Rapid Transit District, and a training and motivation program for the State of California Conservation Corps, primarily aimed at reducing attrition and providing vocational guidance for youth.  Developed a Summer Youth Employment curriculum for a community college district, and participated in the development of the material for another. Developed the adult vocational placement curriculum for a community college, and contributed to the program of another.  Also skilled at graphic design, photography, and printing processes.  Functioned as designer and lay out artist for a printing and promotions company.   Skilled in photomicroscopy and micro- and macrophotography, Computer skills including word processing, graphics, internet and simple web page design.
